- Use either a pre-wetted mop cover or a dry mop cover wetted with an appropriate cleaning agent.
- Slip the mop cover onto the mop.
- For cleaning walls, clean from the top down.
- Move from clean or dry areas to dirty or wet areas.
- Use linear overlapping strokes, from top to bottom.
- Change the mop cover every 25 cleaning steps –or more frequently if the wall is very dirty. A cleaning step is the cleaning of one mop width of a wall section, from top to bottom.
- For cleaning floors, clean in small rectangular sections.
- Move from clean or dry areas to dirty or wet areas.
- Use linear overlapping strokes to minimize recontamination of mopped areas.
- Mop doorways or high-traffic areas last as they are likely to be the dirtiest.
- Doorways or high-traffic areas may need more frequent mopping or special attention to remove visible contamination.
- Change the mop cover after 100 square feet (9.3 square meters) of floor surface has been mopped – or more frequently if the floor is very dirty.
- Damp mopping is more effective than dry in removing contamination.
- Place dirty mop covers in a bag for disposal.
- Follow relevant site protocol (procedures for safety, contamination, etc.).
